Yet another Houston area prep basketball star is headed to Lobo Land. Curtis Dennis gave his verbal commitment to UNM late Wednesday night. Dennis, a combo guard, originally from the Bronx, averaged 23 points, 6.4 rebounds and four assists a game last season in Houston.

Football Season is almost here, I can smell it
Do you smell that in the air as darkness sets in? You know what that smell is? It's the smell of a rapidly approaching football season. Sure, UNM is basketball school--just compare Rocky Long's contract to Steve Alford's--but we love football too, just in a different way.
Basketball is like that smokin'-hot chick at the bar that for whatever reason wants to go home with you, even though you didn't buy her a drink all night. So now every time you go to that bar you look for her and she's not there you're not happy.
Football in New Mexico is like the chubby girl you hooked up with in high school, she's nice, she's cool, she's just not that hot. Still, when the Super Hot One is not around, you can deal with the fatty. In fact, you might even look forward to seeing her.
Alright then, it's time for the fatty to come over. The Lobos are picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the top-heavy Mountain West Conference. Ho Hum. The real story of the MWC season is the potential of TCU to do what Bosie State did last season--bust up the BCS party. Many experts say it is possible and I agree, in fact I'm calling for an Undefeated Horned Frogs squad to win a BCS Bowl. Not the BCS Championship Game but a BCS Bowl. Of course, I predicted the Lobo B-Ball team would go undefeated in conference last year, so what do I know?
I do know the Lobos will suck once again, not win a bowl game once again and finally, Rocky third and Long will get canned. Let me be the first to say so long Rock, have a nice life.
I do love football and am very excited to see if the Colts can repeat despite all the personel losses , if the Vols can win the SEC, if Madden '08 is the best football game of all-time, if Rutgers can build on last season, if UNM can win a bowl game, if TCU can go undefeated, if Randy Moss can destroy the Patriots chemistry (I can't wait until he gets in a fight with Brandon Merriweather and they shoot each other at the same time, maybe one of the stray bullets will hit Brady in his throwing arm), if I can once again win my Fantasy Football League and how I fare in my new Dynasty League.
Some College Football Predictions:
UNM goes 6-6, no bowl game
TCU 12-0 wins Fiesta Bowl
Tennessee 10-2 wins SEC and Sugar Bowl
West Virginia 12-0 wins BCS Championship
NMSU 3-9
NFL Predictions:
Colts repeat as Champs by beating the Cowboys 42-13 in the Super Bowl
Pats finish 12-4, lose to San Diego in playoffs
LT gets hurt in Week One
Rex Grossman throws 20 INT
Stephen Jackson wins MVP

The New Home Run King
He did it. Barry Bonds just broke the All-Time Home Run record. No. 756 came on a 3-2 count in the 5th inning off of Nationals pitcher Mike Bacsik. Congratulations Barroid.
Truthfully, I am so happy that I witnessed that. I don't really approve of what Bonds has allegedly done, but still its history. I wasn't alive when Hank Aaron hit 715.
So, for anyone who was born after April 8, 1974, like it or not, this is the difining sports moment of your lifetime.
Also, it was great to see Hank Aaron's video message to Bonds. If he can do that, why can't Bud Selig even show up for the record-breaker or clap when he tied it?

I'm going to post this here...
..because my other blog is locked for some reason
Prince Fielder and Corey Hart prevented the Cubbies from regaining the top spot of the N.L. Central Standings.
First things first, the Cubs shook off yesterday tough loss and rebounded to beat the Mets 6-2. Ted Lilly was solid going 7.2 and allowing only two runs, a pair of Solo homers to Mr. Pee Hands himself, Moises Alou. Jacque Jones went 3-4, DeRosa had two RBI and the Lovable Ones scored all their runs in the 3rd. The Cubs managed to chase John Maine, the Mets best pitcher this season after just 2.2 innings. All right, so far, so good.
The Phillies held a 5-1 lead over the Brewers and it looked as though the Cubbies would be back in first.
Life was good a couple of hours ago. Then Cole Hamels gave a two-run double to the pesky J.J. Hardy, and a RBI single to Prince Fatty.
The Phils took a 5-4 lead into the 8th and what happened? The Fat One cranked a two-run dong into the upper deck in right field.
Top 9, Cordero in for the save: Chris Roberson, inexplicably swings and misses at a pitch in the dirt with a 3-1 count and then flys lazily to right.
Noted Cub Killer, Tad Iguchi, follows and hits one high and deep, it could be, it might be, AWWWWW, it's caught by a leaping Corey Hart, who contrary to popular belief, does not wear his sunglasses at night. The replays show the ball would have cleared the fence easily. The nice play by Hart is followed by another Fly out to right and the Beer Makers remain in first. Whatever.
Sunday, Jason Marquis pitches for the Cubs and Tom Glavine goes for his 300th career victory for the Mets. As much as I like Glavine and would love to see probably the last guy to win 300 do so, Sunday's game is must win.
The Cubs beat up on a lot of bad teams during their torrid run and now they need to beat good ones. They split with the Phils and can win this series against the Mets.
Also, I have been trying to write the Brewers off for a long time, but they are a good team and they're not going away. I wish they would but I don't think so.
One last thing: Barry Bonds will break the record tonight

UNM Can't Fight
It is hard to be Lobo fan and a real sports fan. On my list of sports teams I love the Lobos sit dead last. They will never win a National Championship in a sport that matters. They can't even win a fight. Watch J.R. Giddens as the fight starts, what a chump.

Tyrone Nelson Kicked Off Team
Why does it surprise me that Nelson was kicked off of the NMSU Basketball team? Maybe because the Thug U is finally holding its athletes accountable for their criminal actions.
Nelson pleaded no contest for allegedly robbing a pizza man, Why I don't know. Really, who robs a pizza man? He probably only got a few dollars and a deep dish pepperoni out of it.
Mr. Nelson, if you wanted to commit a crime and make some money, rob Steve Alford. I hear he is rolling in dough. His son is even going to La Cueva.
This is great news for Lobo fans, as now both Theus and Nelson are gone and we won't have to worry about them beating us next season. This also really good news for pizza guys in Cruces, finally they can sleep at night.
